Arm Lift

Arm Lift

The arm lift or brachioplasty removes loose skin and fat from the upper arm. Patients typically presented with sagging of the upper arms and “bat wing” deformity due to their excess skin and fat. It is a popular procedure for patients who have lost a large amount of weight. Brachioplasty is also popular with patients who have heavy upper arms due to simple genetic factors. Loose skin hanging from the arms tends to make patients self-conscious and limits clothing options. It can even cause people to avoid certain activities, like swimming.

Arm Lift Procedure
Patients may benefit from one or a combination of these techniques.

Liposuction Only
Patients with good skin elasticity and minimal excess skin may be candidates for liposuction only. An advantage to this approach is that there is minmal scarring and minimal downtime. The right candidate can expect significant improvement, but not as dramatic as when skin is removed as well.
Elbow to Axilla
An incision from the fold of the elbow to the axilla, or armpit, yields dramatic improvement. This approach is frequently combined with liposuction to eliminate fat pockets and loose skin. Most brachioplasty candidates choose this method.
Mini-Arm Lifts
A mini-arm lift is an option for patients with excess skin in the uppermost portion of the arm, and for those concerned about scarring. In this case, I make an incision in the armpit, sometimes extending a few inches down the arm.

Arm Lift Candidates

  • Have lost large amounts of weight and are close to their ideal weight
  • Genetically have large fat deposits and or excess skin on their thighs
  • Should be healthy and well nourished without vitamin or mineral deficiencies.
  • Non-smokers

Arm Lift Recovery
Patients typically take one week off from work for arm lift surgery. Patients are encouraged to walk shortly after the operation. Full exercise may be resumed at approximately 6 weeks.
